Twenty villagers will be opening their gardens to the public next month as part of the Writtle Gardens Open Day.

The bi-annual event, now in its 12th year, will take place on June 21, kicking off at 12pm with a special opening ceremony on Writtle Green.

This will be performed by The Lord Petre, Lord Lieutenant of Essex, and patron of the charity ‘Friends of Writtle Parish Church’ and will be followed by a quarter peal of bells from the church tower.

During the last event, nearly £5,000 was raised to support the upkeep of the village's church.

In addition to the gardens, which will be open until 6pm, there will be a children's scarecrow competition, plants and woodcraft items for sale, floristry displays in Writtle Church, an art exhibition and picture sales and refreshments.

Tickets £4 by entry programme, available on the day from a sales booth on The Green.

Accompanied children under 16 free of charge. No dogs allowed.

All proceeds from the day will go towards the maintenance of All Saints Church.

In addition to the central village car park, additional parking is available at Writtle College’s Lordship Road car park and behind the Co-op in Bridge Street at the entrance to Brewhouse Hoppit.
