Driver Gillian Edwards may have suffered a heart attack, a coroner heard.
An inquest opening took place this morning into the death of Mrs Edwards.
Mrs Edwards, 61, of Heybridge Basin, died on May 12 in Main Road, Boreham, after her black Smart car struck a lamp-post.
Coroner Eleanor McGann opened the inquest in County Hall, Chelmsford.
The provisional cause of death was given as multiple traumatic injuries, myocardial infarction (heart attack) and coronary artery thrombosis in area of coronary artery atherosclerosis.
