A RESIDENT has spoken of his sadness after a woman died when her car overturned in his garden.

Ken Kemp, 55, of Main Road, Boreham, was in his back garden when he heard a loud noise coming from the front of the house, followed by his wife shouting for help.

He was horrified to find an overturned black Smart car, with a woman inside, buried deep in the hedge surrounding his garden.

He said: "I heard three really loud bangs, it sounded like a lorry at first so I came running from the garden.

"My wife called the emergency services and I went straight to the car and started to talk to the woman and ask if she could hear me but there was no response.

"I spoke to the emergency services who were telling us not to touch her, to leave her in the car but a woman, who said she was a police woman, and her partner pulled her out and started to do CPR.

"I told the operator on the phone she had no pulse and we had to give her a chance.”

The emergency services arrived five minutes later but sadly the woman, in her 60s and from the Maldon area, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened just after 6pm on May 12.

Mr Kemp, who has lived in Main Road for about 20 years, added that he couldn't begin to imagine how awful it must be for the woman's family and expressed his condolences.
