Young people from schools around Chelmsford put their knowledge of crime to the test by local officers.

Police Community Support Officers Marcus Baines and Jess Farrell spoke to Year Six children from primary schools around the area as part of Chelmsford’s Crucial Crew programme last month.

The PCSOs invited groups to take part in a quiz on Crime and Consequences, and gave valuable advice to them as they prepare for secondary school.

The event, organised by Chelmsford City Council, invites different agencies across Essex to educate children on a variety of community issues.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were on hand to talk about fire safety, and other speakers included the Council’s Dog Wardens who spoke to the children about animal safety.

PCSO Baines said: "This was a fantastic opportunity for young people to engage and discuss the issues that were raised in a safe, open environment.

"I think that the pupils are certainly more aware on safety issues and how to be mindful on how their actions and decisions may impact upon themselves and others, particularly when there is police involvement.”

PCSO Farrell added: "Workshops like this allows us to build relationships with our young people, where we can offer advice on life choices as they prepare for secondary school.

"They are at a vital stage of their education and development, and Crucial Crew gives us the chance to deliver clear, concise messages on personal safety and being accountable for your own actions.”

Crucial Crew ran at the TA Centre, Chelmsford, until 1 May.
