NEWLY-crowned World Champion Stuart Bingham has been named snooker’s Player of the Year at the sport’s annual awards ceremony.

The 38-year-old from Vange was handed the award at London’s Dorchester Hotel last night, only four days after he beat Shaun Murphy 18-15 in an epic final – his first world crown after 20 years as a professional.

Bingham, who also won the Shanghai Masters last year, and the Haining Open and Championship League, was boosted to number two in the world after his win.

He was also named the Snooker Journalists Player of the Year category.

The Fans Player of the Year award, which included votes from fans on Twitter, Weibo and WeChat, went to Judd Trump, who won the Australian Goldfields Open and World Grand Prix and reached three other finals.
