A Chelmsford man has raised vital funds for Diabetes UK by completing the London Marathon.

Declan, 25, of Curzon Way was running because both of his Granddads have type 2 diabetes.

So far Declan has raised £2,032 for Diabetes UK but hopes further donations might help him to raise even more.

After crossing the line Declan said: “I can’t believe I’ve just completed the London Marathon! It’s been amazing being a part of Team Diabetes UK since I signed up and crossing the finish line today was the icing on the cake.

"Towards the end I did wonder if my legs would carry me those last couple of miles, but being cheered on all the way by Team Diabetes UK supporters and the crowd and knowing I was raising much needed cash for such a great cause propelled me to the end.

"If you’re thinking about signing up for next year, do it now!”

Clare Allen, Diabetes UK Fundrasing Manager for London, the South East and East said, "We are so proud of Declan for taking on such a brilliant challenge for Team Diabetes UK and I just want to say a huge congratulations and a massive thank you to him for supporting us in such an amazing way.

"People like Declan who take on these challenges and raise money on behalf of Diabetes UK help to ensure we can carry on our aims of caring for and supporting the 3.8 million people in the UK living with diabetes."
