The first Great Baddow Community Day of Action saw residents, scout leaders, school-children and the emergency services take part.

The day, organised by Chelmsford City Council, as part of its new Neighbourhood Improvement and Community Engagement scheme (NICE), saw the council work with Chelmer Housing Partnership, Essex Fire and Rescue, Essex Police, DVLA and Chelmsford Volunteer Centre to help deliver and facilitate an extensive environmental improvement project in the Meadgate area in Great Baddow.

The project is part of the Council’s ongoing effort in encouraging communities to help protect their local environment.

The Council will be supporting Community Days with an extensive clean-up operation including road sweeping, graffiti removal, hedge cutting, dog fouling enforcement, grass cutting and litter picking.

Two Scout leaders from 26th Chelmsford Scout Group assisted the Council’s Parks Team and CHP to improve the raised beds outside Meadgate shops and partner organisations provided information, advice and recycling receptacles for residents.

The Essex Fire and Rescue service and the Police Community Safety Officer conducted a walkabout and a street meet for any residents whom had any concerns.

Chelmsford City Council would like to thank 36 enthusiastic Year Four and Five pupils from Meadgate Primary School who conducted a litter pick and collected a total of 15 bags of litter from the park and footpaths.

Chelmsford Star Co-Op supported the event by providing refreshments and Meadgate Church opened its doors all day for volunteers, providing teas and coffees.

The next Community Day of Action is scheduled for September 2015 and in the Melbourne area. If you would like a Community Day of Action near you please visit www.chelmsford.gov.uk/nice
