A MECHANIC has been accused of failing to fix people’s cars – and lying about donating money from the bill to charity.

Under charges brought by Trading Standards, John Kenny, 48, of Allen Way, Chelmsford, is accused of failing to repair a Renault in Chelmsford on November 23, 2013.

The mechanic, who operated under the name Gas Monkeys Mobile Mechanic, is also accused of agreeing to repair and provide parts for Jeanette Jolly’s car in Thurrock on January 22, 2014, but failing to do so.

Kenny is further accused of promising to donate £2 to breast cancer awareness for every job he carried out – then failing to hand over the money.

He is also accused of carrying out work on a Peugeot car in Thurrock in March, 2014, causing the fan belt to snap and sparking an oil leak.

Finally, he is accused of agreeing to carry out work to a catalytic converter in March, 2014, and then failing to do the work.

Kenny denied the charges when he appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court.

His case was transferred to Basildon Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing and he was released on bail.
