Essex Council Council is to host a LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender) adoption and fostering event during LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week.

The event will take place from 1pm until 4pm on March 8 at Writtle Wick Family Centre, 62 Chignal Road, Chelmsford.

Potential adopters and foster carers are invited to come and speak to local LGBT families whose lives have been enriched through adoption and fostering.

There will be information on the process of applying to adopt or foster, the training and support available, as well as the types of children who need families.

Cllr Dick Madden, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “We know that fostering and adoption can provide really successful outcomes, helping children to flourish.

"Hopefully LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week will inspire people to give a vulnerable child or children a safe, secure and loving home.”

In 2014/15, six per cent of adopters approved by Essex County Council were LGBT, compared with four per cent in 2011/12, showing that an increasing number of LGBT families are coming forward to offer a loving home to a child or children who need one.
