A person has been hit by a train at Chelmsford train station.

An Abellio Greater Anglia spokesman posted a tweet on Twitter saying that a person had been hit by a train at about 1.40pm today.

They tweeted that the affected train was the 13:00 Liverpool St - Norwich, which is currently delayed at Chelmsford but added that all lines are blocked and that services may be delayed by up to 90 minutes, altered or cancelled.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokeman said: "We sent one ambulance and one ambulance officer to the scene following reports that a person had been hit by a train.

"Sadly, nothing could be done for the patient, a 41-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene."

A British Transport Police spokesman added: “Our officers were called to the line close to Chelmsford railway station after a report a person had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Essex Police and East of England Ambulance Service also attended the incident, which was reported to British Transport Police shortly after 1.30pm, but a 41-year-old man from Chelmsford was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, but a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
