A BUSINESSMAN cycled 2,014 miles to raise £2,014 for a Chelmsford hospice.

Andrew Hood, C.E.O of luxury online retailer Amara, set himself a challenge in 2014 – to cycle 2014 miles throughout the course of the year, raising funds for Chelmsford-based J’s Hospice.

With only days to spare, Andrew cycled his last few miles on Sunday, December 13 and chose to complete the challenge in less than ideal weather, through the muddiest route possible.

Andrew donated £2,014 to The J’s and he and the rest of the Amara team have also been involved in numerous charity events for The Hospice in 2014 and are planning to take part in the ever-popular Pedal for The J’s cycling event taking place on May 3 as well as other exciting fundraisers in 2015.

The J’s Hospice care exclusively for young adults patients between the ages of 16 and 40 with life-limiting illnesses, an often-overlooked part of the community.

Nikki Perry, Communications Manager at The J’s Hospice, said: “Andrew is justifiably proud of his achievement, not just in terms of the impressive distance cycled and the commitment shown but also the funds raised – they will go a long way towards helping young adults in his own local community.”

Andrew added: “I wanted to support a small local charity that makes a big difference and helps young adults. The J’s do just that and my team is fully behind this amazing charity”
