CONFERENCE SOUTH: Concord Rangers manager Danny Cowley says emulating last month’s 3-0 win over Whitehawk tonight would be a remarkable achievement.

The Beach Boys beat promotion-chasing Whitehawk 3-0 only five matches ago, thanks to a brace from Steve Cawley and a goal from Sam Collins.

But Cowley admits his squad are looking light of numbers at the back ahead of tonight’s match on the south coast, after claiming a valiant 0-0 draw at league leaders Boreham Wood on Saturday.

“We are having big problems at the back,” he said. “We are struggling a lot in defence with numbers. Kingy (Steve King) and Matt Fry were only 80 per cent on Saturday, while James White, Danny Glozier and Jack Lampe were unavailable.

“It is one of the problems with having a small squad but we will fight through, as we always do.

“We put in a great display against Whitehawk last time out, but it will be even harder at their place. Not making light of our win earlier in the season, but Whitehawk were missing some key players.

“We will be working in the day and then have to get a coach down to Brighton, but for Whitehawk’s full-time players they will be able to rest and put all their energies into the match. But we embrace these challenges and look forward to it.”

Concord may be able to call on long-term absentee Leon Gordon, who has been missing since the start of the season with an ankle ligament injury, after he was named on the bench on Saturday.

Alex Woodyard will also miss tonight’s match after being selected in the England C squad to play Cyprus under-21s today.

l England C kick-off their match against Cyprus at 1pm GMT. See how Woodyard did in tomorrow’s Echo.
