Cheshunt 0-2 Grays Athletic
Ryman League Cup
GRAYS Athletic are into the quarter-finals of the Ryman League Cup after a 2-0 win over Cheshunt.
Blues’ goals were scored by the impressive Rod Young and Kwasi Marfo, with caretaker manager Mark Bentley’s side now looking forward to a last eight tie at AFC Sudbury, who also play in the Ryman One North with Cheshunt.
Bentley started the game for the visitors and he had the first chance, although his effort went wide.
Young, who recently joined on loan from Welling United – managed by former Blues manager Jody Brown – was looking dangerous on the counter and his lob went narrowly over the crossbar.
Dumebi Dumaka and Joel Nouble came close before Blues took the lead through Young. Good work from Aaron Best-Riley allowed the loan striker to tap the visitors in front.
Conor Gough tipped a Cheshunt effort over the crossbar before the end of the first half although the away side were more than in charge.
Kenny Beaney shot over with Ben Andrews going close up the other end, when his close range effort rebounded off the post.
Dumaka and Young again came close before Marfo doubled Blues’ lead, getting on the end of a cross-shot to beat the goalkeeper.
Cheshunt hit the woodwork again before Dumaka and Jey Siva again came close.
Grays Athletic: Gough, Best-Riley, Morrison-Derbyshire, Leader, Siva, Marfo (Sidhu), Bentley (Wilson), Beaney, Young, Nouble (Knight), Dumaka
