WINTER maintenance of 430 miles of Chelmsford’s country footpaths has been completed successfully, to the delight of residents.

The Countryways team at Chelmsford Council have already met all their targets this winter after undertaking a cutting programme of the overgrowing vegetation since early September.

Fiona Everett, of Chelmsford, regularly enjoys riding her horse along bridlepaths within the city.

She said: “I’ve been riding Chelmsford's pathways and bridle paths for 35 years and it is important for me and other users that the paths are maintained and easily accessible.

“It’s so lovely getting out into the fresh air and I confidently encourage friends to join me.”

Councillor Ray Ride, cabinet member for parks and leisure, said: “One of the council’s priorities is promoting healthy living. “The council will continue to protect the open spaces and will ensure that a wider network of footpaths connect the city’s parks to its beautiful countryside.”
