Accountants have raised nearly £1,400 towards entertainment for children in Broomfield Hospital.

The staff in the Chelmsford office of accountancy firm Baker Till, in Victoria Road South, organised a number of fundraising events in December.

They have raised nearly £1,400 to improve the play provisions available for the patients of the Phoenix Children's Ward at the hospital, in Chelmsford.

Some of the money raised has been used to purchase activity centres, games consoles and related games as well as numerous toys, with the remaining funds made available to use at the ward’s discretion.

Stuart Hinds, a partner at Baker Tilly in Chelmsford, said: "We are delighted to have been able to support another organisation in the local community who will reap the benefits in the months and years ahead.

"This has been possible thanks to the efforts of our staff, clients and intermediary contacts."

Yvonne Carter, Charities Support Officer at the Mid Essex Hospitals Trust said: "We are very grateful to all the staff at Baker Tilly who have helped raise funds for the Phoenix Ward. Life can be tough for sick children in hospital, but these new toys should go some way towards making their stay a little more enjoyable."
