A Chelmsford man has received a three-year driving ban having admitted a catalogue of driving offences which were committed in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Ben Jolly, 27, of Hillary Close, drove a Vauxhall Zafira car belonging to his girlfriend at speeds of up to 70mph around residential areas of Chelmsford and failed to stop for police at 12.15am.
He also received a nine month prison sentence suspended for two years, ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work and to undertake a thinking skills course.
The Zafira was pursued by police on the ground and by air, finally abandoning the vehicle in Aubrey Close and running through a number of back gardens before being arrested. He was found to be nearly twice the legal drink drive limit.
The full list of offences Jolly admitted were:
• Aggravated vehicle taking
• Dangerous driving
• Drink driving
• Failing to stop
• Using a motor vehicle without insurance
• Driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence
• Possession of cannabis
