Barkingside 0-2 Tilbury

TILBURY’S impressive recent form continued as they breezed past a dismal Barkingside side at Cricklefields.

The Dockers won their fourth game of their last five thanks to a brace from Tony Martin.

And the away side got off to a terrific start, when Martin got on the end of a cross to turn the ball home.

Barkingside goalkeeper Tim Pitman was called into action soon after to deny the striker once again, in what was one of a number of saves on the night.

And Martin looked destined to add to his tally as his powerful downward header flew towards goal, only for Pitman to fling himself to one side to keep the score at 1-0.

Barkingside could have equalised, but for a fine save from Jack Giddens in the Tilbury goal and Matty Gulfer should have brought the home side level only to shoot wide as he closed in on goal.

And the home side were made to pay when a quick counter-attack saw Martin send a long range lob over Pitman’s head and into the net.

Pitman was called into action several more times on a comfortable night for Gary Henty’s team.
