Tilbury 1-0 Romford
From Chadfields
Ryman One North
EMIEL Aiken kept up Tilbury’s fine home record with a narrow win over Romford.
Gary Henty’s side have been superb at Chadfields this term, winning eight games at the ground this term.
The visitors played well, and were indebted to Bradley Webb for a fine goal line clearance. The same man was to thank soon after he denied another marauding Mead attack.
Tony Martin fired the first warning shot of the afternoon, although it went harmlessly wide.
The game saw both sides go toe-to-toe, although neither looked likely of breaking through.
But it was a piece of quick-thinking from Jack Carlile that broke the deadlock. A quick free-kick saw the visitors sleeping and Aiken ran through to crash home at the near post past the diving Aaron Ormand.
The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser, but the result saw the Dockers with another deserved clean sheet.
“We played some good football in patches on a heavy pitch, but nothing gives me more pleasure as a manager than a clean sheet,” he said.
“After a defeat (against Thamesmead Town) a sign of a good side is to get back to winning ways.”
