Hard up students are being offered the chance to work with local entrepreneur Peter Gurr, who runs private tuition firm Tutor Doctor from his base in Chelmsford.

The business has grown substantially as demand for high quality one-to-one tutoring in the area increases.

Despite Tutor Doctor’s success in supporting Essex children over the last three years, the biggest challenge Peter currently faces is recruiting enough tutors to cope with demand.

Although he has a netwrk of 30 experienced tutors demand for his services are outstripping supply as school students and parents look ahead to the exam season.

Peter is therefore appealing to the local university student population, who are ideally suited to convert their subject skills and knowledge into financial gain, to get in touch and find out more about tutoring opportunities.

“Our ideal tutors would be students who are in the second or third year of their university course and passionate about making a difference to children’s lives,” said Peter. “Our rates of pay are considerably higher than those for traditional forms of student employment and tutoring can also be challenging, flexible and rewarding. "We are also very receptive to enquiries from experienced teachers and tutors looking to boost their income.”

Tim Morris, Tutor Doctor’s UK franchise field consultant said: “Many of our existing tutors are students. With our support they can become excellent tutors.

"They do not have to have teaching qualifications; we have guides to help them prepare and deliver a successful teaching experience.” All stages of the academic journey are catered for from primary school to college and university. All subjects are covered and students receive one-to-one tuition in the comfort and privacy of their own home. Tutors are handpicked so that the tuition programme is closely tailored to the individuals specific needs and learning style. Before being selected tutors undergo rigorous mandatory background checks.
