Hampton & Richmond Borough 1-2 Billericay Town

BILLERICAY Town beat Hampton & Richmond Borough thanks to a superb Glenn Poole free-kick to record their fifth win in six games.

Goals from Richard Halle, who netted his third penalty in six games, and veteran Poole were enough to hand the points to Craig Edwards’ side.

Hampton have been inconsistent form at home, with five wins and now eight defeats, and Town took full advantage to record their sixth win on the road.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half and that proved costly – Saheed Sankoh was the man dismissed for the second Saturday in succession – and that was the platform Billericay needed to go on and claim the win.

It was also a notable day for George Beavan who, having been ruled out for the season two months ago, has made a remarkable return to fitness and took his place on the substitutes bench.

Edwards handed a start to former Colchester United man Ryan Melaugh but his chances were limited.

The game started slowly, but was brought to life midway through the first half when the evergreen Halle stepped up to blast his kick beyond the Hampton goalkeeper, after Harry Baker had been brought down in the box.

Billy Lumley was in fine form between the posts for Town, and made a terrific save moments later.

But Poole scored the decisive goal with a terrific free-kick 10 minutes from time.

Tom Collins got himself on the score sheet after Sankoh was dismissed but that wasn’t enough for the hosts.

Poole will have further reason to celebrate tonight, as he plays his 150th game for Town as Enfield Town visit New Lodge.
