CANVEY Island have been rocked by the news that Ishmail Kamara is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his leg.

The Sierra Leone international fractured his tibia in the 2-1 win against Hampton & Richmond Borough – screaming after a heavy challenge saw him collapse 30 minutes into Tuesday night’s match.

He was taken to hospital and will spend the next six weeks in plaster.

The injury comes a week after top scorer John Sands had his contract cancelled after he reached an agreement with the club.

And manager Danny Heale says Kamara’s injury blow couldn’t have come at a worse time.

“Now is not the time you want to be losing strikers,” he said. “One has left and another is injured so it is a real kick in the teeth.

“We are working tirelessly to make sure we bring in a replacement but it is touch and go as to whether we will have anyone in by the weekend.

“We have added Geoff Mitchell to the squad and he did well on Tuesday but we need a few more bodies.

“Hopefully we can make some deals happen very soon.”
