UP to 100 houses could be built in Great Leighs if new plans are given the goahead.

Developer Gladman Developments has submitted an application to Chelmsford Council to build the homes off Main Road, opposite the Shimbrooks estate.

Plans also include room for a public green space which would include a children’s play space.

However, the plans haven’t been well received in the village.

Many objection notices have been left on the council’s planning website by residents, who fear the development would have a negative effect on the area.

Concerns raised include the road infrastructure, school overcrowding and the effect on the local wildlife.

Objector Caroline McPhail said: “The village is already struggling to manage with developments that have already been built.

“The existing utilites that are supplied to the village are unable to cope with the amount of houses that already exist, let alone another 100 dwellings.”

Another objector, Katie Haynes, added: “There are already too many houses in the village, which is causing too much traffic entering and leaving the village as it is.

“The advent of more houses would cause more congestion.

We have problems with BT, internet and power cuts on a regular basis and more houses this would make matters worse.”

Earlier this month, Gladman had its 41st planning application success out of 43.
