Brightlingsea Regent 4-1 Great Wakering Rovers

BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent eased past Great Wakering Rovers 4-1 in a disappointing afternoon for Dan Trenkel's men.

Three first half goals plus a late fourth proved the difference, with Billy Johnson’s fourth goal in successive games the only bright spot for the visitors.

The match started slowly but it was the hosts that took the lead, and the goal had a slice of luck about it.

Michael Brothers took aim from long range only to see his shot strike Joe Skeels and leave Adam Seal helpless between the posts.

Not long after it was 2-0 and it was a penalty that saw the advantage doubled. Ben Newson was on the mark for the hosts and from that moment on it was uphill for Trenkel’s side.

Phil Kelly scored the goal of the game before the break – and it was a 25-yard chip that beat Seal and put the game beyond Rovers.

Johnson struck home ten minutes after half-time to hand the visitors a lifeline but a superb free-kick from Brothers with 20 minutes to go ended the contest.
