Christmas is just around the corner and the team at Hylands House and Estate have an array of activities lined up to keep children and families amused.

Youngsters will be excited to hear they can watch Cinderella, Buttons, the Ugly Sisters and the Fairy Godmother in their winter pantomime, showing in the Grand Pavilion.

Then there’s the safari around the estate. Learn about the natural environment and create a nature scrapbook to take home. The even-younger can keep warm with a Tuesday Toddle - a guided walk around the pretty estate.

While the children play, grown-ups will get the chance to join in the fun. For the creative types, the team at Hylands are running a programme of winter workshops where people can create their own fused glass snowflakes, lino print Christmas cards, gift tags and wrapping paper or create a festive door wreath – all with a mince pie and mulled wine in hand.

Alternatively, sit back and relax as the Cameo Players take a festive romp through history from the Tudors to the present day, with songs, poetry and drama in the Christmas Soiree.

Those looking for a touch of festive elegance will be excited to hear of first ever Hylands Christmas Party Night. Guests can enjoy a delicious three-course meal and a fabulous singer, saxophonist and other surprise treats.

Councillor Ray Ride, in charge of parks and leisure, said: “Christmas is a time for all to enjoy themselves. You might like to spend it at a sophisticated party or with your children, making lovely things or exploring the past. We’ve reflected that in the events we’ve planned, creating a festive programme that has something for everyone.”
