Bury Town 0-1 East Thurrock United

EAST Thurrock United made it seven league points from a possible nine with a win at Suffolk strugglers Bury Town.

Sam Higgins hit the only goal to ensure Rocks took the three points with the away goalkeeper David Hughes rarely tested between the posts.

Rocks dictated the pace as the first half went on with the first real chance coming after half-an-hour, with Lewis Smith smashing a long range effort off the crossbar.

And the goal came soon after. Captain Tom Stephen hit another long-range effort off the woodwork and Higgins was in the right place at the right time to tuck home the rebound.

Bury pushed forward in the second period but again failed to test Hughes, with Amido Cande hitting a late shot over the crossbar and East Thurrock, who never really threatened themselves in the second half, ran out deserved winners.

John Coventry’s men sit in 10th position and have two games in hand over near rivals Canvey.
