THE route for the Chelmsford Marathon this weekend has been altered for the safety of runners and due to severe weather.
Runners were informed yesterday afternoon that two miles of the grass surface running area in Hylands Park will be removed in case of flooding.
This will be replaced by two miles of tarmac surface in Central Park.
The events manager at J’s Hospice, Jessica Dellow, said: “We have had to take into consideration the safety of runners.
“So we have slightly altered the route by replacing the grassy area with two miles of tarmac, even if the weather clears up we need to take the safety of runners into consideration before the marathon.”
“If there is any more rain we have catered for participants and ensured safety.”
Around 1,900 people are due to take part on Sunday, October 19.
