Billericay Town 0-1 Weymouth
From New Lodge
FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round
BILLERICAY Town saw their dreams of reaching the FA Cup first round proper dashed by an impressive Weymouth side.
A solitary goal in the first half proved enough to see the Southern Premier League move past the Dorset team, although Billericay were indebted to keeper Billy Lumley for keeping Town in the game for as long as they were.
Town had Ryan Scott sent off in added time but by that time, the game was almost up.
New signings Roman Michael-Percil and old boy Jacob Cleaver came into the starting line-up and the home team started slowly.
The first-half’s best effort came from Chris Shepard, when he forced Lumley into a low save.
And the visitors went into the lead on the stroke of half-time – skipper Stewart Yetton heading home in front of Glenn O’Hanlon.
Billericay needed to improve but it could have got worse moments after the break. Steve Sheehan chopped down his man but Lumley guessed right and stopped Yetton from doubling his advantage.
Seedy Njie then shot over and Sappleton once again tested the keeper but Craig Edwards’ men couldn’t find that elusive equaliser.
And his woe was compounded when Scott was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Billericay: Lumley, Sheehan, Halle (Benjamin), Scott, O’Hanlon; Michael-Percil (R Sappleton), Poole, Mahler, Imudia (Baker); Njie, Cleaver.
