A BRENTWOOD councillor is taking the fight to Essex County Council in a bid to save the funding currently given to community tranpsort.

David Kendall, who is also a Lib Dem county councillor, believes community rransport provides a vital lifeline for many elderly and vulnerable residents.

He is calling on the Cabinet Member, Councillor Rodney Bass, to give a commitment that existing funding levels will be maintained until 2015. A three year funding arrangement needs to be put in place to enable Community Transport providers to put together a solid business case to guarantee service continuity.

Cllr Kendall will propose a motion to protect community rransport at the meeting of the full County Council on Tuesday.

He said: "Community Transport schemes across Essex do a brilliant job. I am very worried that the viability of these schemes will be under serious threat if the County Council withdraws its current financial support.

"Our motion gives the Cabinet Member the opportunity to state that the funding is safe; I hope he will take it.”
