WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: C&K Basildon Ladies made it seven league wins in a row with a comprehensive 5-0 home win against Ipswich Town Ladies.

A brace from Zoe Rushen and strikes from Hannah Porter, Karissa Rodney and Carly Eagles saw the impressive women’s side stretch their lead at the top of division to five points.

The match started slowly and it wasn’t until 20 minutes that C&K created their first chance. Amy Nash drilled wide at the far post after good build-up play between Rodney and Porter down the left.

And moments later the hosts had gone in front. Sara Sinclair won a freekick and Rushen’s delivery was flicked towards goal by Claire Lacey. A fine save denied her but Porter was able to turn home the rebound.

C&K goalkeeper Mel Kinsella turned away a long range effort before they doubled their lead with four minutes of the half to go. Sinclair was fouled in the box and Rushen slotted home the spot kick.

Rushen headed over the bar before they made the game safe on the hour mark. Nash’s corner was headed clear but the winger sent in a second delivery that Rodney smashed home at the first time of asking.

Although the game was won, C&K continued to press and good link-up between the outstanding Nash and Merrick Will saw the latter cross to Eagles who shot home into the far corner.

And with five minutes left on the clock, Rushen lashed home a fifth to complete a comprehensive win.
