A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man was found in a flat in Chelmsford with stab wounds.

Police were called just after 8.30am on Tuesday to the first floor flat in Broomfield Road and discovered the body of a man, believed to be in his 40s, with multiple injuries

A 29 year-old man, of no fixed address, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He was in custody being questioned by detectives when the Weekly News went to print.

It is thought the man's body was found in a flat above Sanctus, a cafe for the homeless and vulnerable.

The police helicopter was seen later in the day over Admirals Park in the city as part of the investigation.

DCI Martin Pasmore, who is leading the investigation, has appealed to anyone with information to come forward and speak to them.

He said: "I’m keen to speak to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area.

“The victim was found with stab injuries in a property on a busy road and I would urge anyone with information to contact me.”

Anyone with information should contact Essex Police on 101.
