MEMBERS of Halla Visteon Climate Control’s Chelmsford office will be taking to the streets tomorrow (Sunday 28th) on a bike that promises to turn at least four heads.
Riding on a frame that seats four and is made out of ex-postal bikes, the sponsored team aim to complete a 25-mile circuit to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The bike was built 30 years ago by the Post Office for its employees to use in charity initiatives, raising around £75,000 over 20 years. After 10 years out of action, the bike has been restored to its former glory by John Gray, an engineer at HVCC, and a team of friends and colleagues.
The bike is made from four different postal bikes which have been modified to a twin-tandem layout with shared steering and connected pedals.
John said: “Controlling the bike is the biggest challenge and with so many riders, it can sometimes have a mind of its own. We can’t wait to put it to the test and raise money for a very good cause.”
John and the team of eight volunteers will also be joined by a number of Penny Farthing bicycles this Sunday so make sure to keep your eyes peeled!
