PEOPLE queued through the early hours to be one of the first through the door of a revamped supermarket in Chelmsford and get their hands on a ‘golden ticket’.

Aldi, on Springfield Road, has recently undergone an expansion to to meet increased demand and improve the store.

Over 200 shoppers queued from 4am on Thursday in the hope of getting one of the 100 tickets on offer. Each ticket included prizes such as tablet PC’s, smart phones and luxury bags of shopping.

The extension to the store, which is one of the busiest in Essex, is the second it’s had since opening in 1995. It was opened by store manager Michael Fuller and the Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Robert Villa.

The revamp has created a further 15 jobs, with the supermarket still on the lookout for people to fill those vacancies.

Following the reopening, Mr Fuller said: “My team and I very much enjoyed welcoming customers to our new-look store; the turnout on the day was fantastic, with 100 people walking away with a prize.

“We hope the shoppers enjoyed our celebrations and we’re looking forward to welcoming further shoppers to the store in the coming months.”
