AN INNOVATIVE product designed and sold by a Chelmsford-based business is set to feature on an episode of popular home renovation show Grand Designs.

The Magic Thermodynamic Box - dubbed a fridge working in reverse, which heats water by absorbing heat from the surrounding atmosphere - features in the hit Channel 4 show next month.

Gregory Kewish, the architect on a project in Cornwall - which is the subject of the show - is aiming to design and build a property in which all of the domestic energy is provided from renewable soucres.

After researching the market, the Californian architect visited the Magic Thermodynamics Box Company’s office, in New London Road, where he watched a presentation from Malcolm Stratford, the firm’s technical adviser, and decided to have the Little Magic Thermodynamic Box fitted as part of the project.

Grand Designs, presented by Kevin McLeod, tracks the design and building progress of innovative and quirky building projects.

Alistair Smit, the company’s managing director said: “The unique selling point of this product is that it works day and night, every day of the year, unlike Solar Thermal, which only works when there is sunlight “It was a simple installation which took just over a day and will save the user on energy for years to come.”

The show airs on Wednesday, September 10.
