THE Meadow’s Shopping Centre has been recognised for its environmental efforts.
The city centre mall has been announced as a winner at the International Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice, competing against over 500 other nominations.
Representatives from the centre will now attend a glitzy award ceremony at the House of Lords in November.
The Meadows winning entry focused on recycling.
Around 99 per cent of all waste at the Meadows is recycled, with the remaining one per cent sent to a waste to energy site.
The mall is also considered an industry leader after becoming the first shopping centre in Great Britain to install an accelerate food composter, turning all food waste into compost which is then used on the centre’s landscaped areas.
After 18 years, the Green Apple Awards are the country’s major recognition for environmental endeavour.
