A COUPLE will never forget the birth of their second son...after the mum delivered him herself in the front seat of their car!

Gareth Burton, 26, was at work in Chelmsfordwhen he was forced into action after his wife Amy, 27, rang him last Thursday to say that she was having contractions and believed she was in labour.

Mr Burton got home, picked up his wife and then headed for Broomfield Hospital. His son however, didn’t want to wait.

Within five minutes, Mrs Burton’s waters had broken and she felt the sudden need to push.

Mr Burton said: “We were only halfway there when she starting saying ‘I need to push’. I said ‘no you don’t’.

“I was convinced we would still have time to get to the hospital and carried on driving.

“The next thing I knew she said she could feel the head and within a minute she was sat in the passenger seat with an entire baby in her arms and was saying ‘We’ve got another boy!’ “It was unbelievably quick.

“Amy gave birth into her own hands, she was brilliant, she was just so calm.”

Baby Luca Gary Burton, weighing 7lbs 11oz, arrived safely as his dad, a supporter of Tottenham Hotspur, was driving his Renault Clio through White Hart Lane, Springfield – also the name of his favourite club’s stadium.

He said: “It was surreal, you never expect it to happen in those circumstances.”

Mr Burton, who works for Essex County Council, joked that his son is destined to be a Spurs fan because of where he was born.

Both Luca and his mum are well and now at home in Boreham with Mr Burton and the couple’s other son Reece, four.
