PLANNING permission has been granted to allow the first wave of homes for a new town to be built to the north of the city.
The development, known as Beaulieu, will eventually see up to 3,600 homes built between the A130 and A12, as well as shops and leisure facilities, a hotel, plus “business developments and educational bases”.
Developer Countryside has been given permission to construct the first 49 homes, with work set to start in September. Planning permission for a further 184 homes is expected within a matter of weeks.
Beaulieu will provide a new relief road connecting it with the A12 and the site for a new mainline railway station on the East Anglian main line, which is due to be developed by Network Rail.
