DISRUPTION to rail services through Chelmsford is expected into the early hours of Wednesday morning after a person was hit by a train.

The person is reported to have died in the incident - though this has not been confirmed.

Trains are subject to cancellation and delayed by at least 60 minutes following the incident.

A tweet from the UK Railway Chaplains organisation, who offer pastoral care for railway staff, at 10.29pm read: "Police advised report of a fatality! Person having walked off the end of the platform at Chelmsford, thoughts with all affected."

The line between Liverpool Street, London and Chelmsford had been closed following the incident at 7.40pm, but reopened at 10.50pm.

A statement on Greater Anglia's website said: "Following a person being hit by a train earlier today at Chelmsford all lines are now open.

"Train services running through this station may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 mins at short notice. Disruption is expected until 01:30 09/07.

"We thank you for your patience and understanding."
