ONE of the biggest sporting events in the world will ride through Chelmsford in less than three weeks, and spectators are being advised to plan their day carefully.

The Tour de France rolls through town on Monday, July 7, and will mean the route of the ride (which can be found here www.chelmsford.gov.uk/tourdefrance) will be closed from 8am-5pm, having an impact on those who live along the route or use it for work.

Essex County Council is providing information to help residents to plan for the day by delivering a leaflet to every household in Essex. Those who haven’t received it or want another copy can download a copy from www.letouressex.com, where further information on road closures is also available.

A large screen will show the event in Admirals Park, and there will be plenty of other activities going on to.

Live music, cycling events, and a range of refreshments will also be on hand to make the day really special. More information on the day can be found at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/tourdefrance Those who can’t make it on the day of the Tour can still celebrate the occasion with a family fun day at Melbourne Park on Saturday, July 5.

From 10am-4pm, there will be bike rides, trials and coaching and other sporting events taking place, as well as a bouncy castle. More information can be found at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/TDFfunday

Chelmsford City Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, Councillor Ray Ride, said: “This is going to be a very exciting day for Chelmsford and we want everyone in the city to enjoy it and make the most of the day, and this can be achieved by planning ahead and being prepared.

“If you are unable to watch the Tour de France pass through on the day itself, we at least hope you will be able to enjoy the free Celebration and Family Fun Day being held in Melbourne Park.”
