CONTROVERSIAL plans to build 110 new homes on village farmland on the outskirts of Chelmsford have emerged.
Developers have contacted Chelmsford Council about buying the land at Horseshoe Farm, just off Main Road, Bicknacre.
Gladman Developments wants to identify any effects the development might have on the local environment.
Richard Poulter, city councillor for the Bicknacre ward, said he didn’t see the development going any further and it would not be welcomed by villagers.
He said: “I would think it won’t happen because it’s simply not wanted.
“It’s not in the development plan and the villages’ inhabitants will not want it. There would be the extra traffic and extra demand on the school.
“There are already drainage problems in the village, so it would only make that worse. I can’t predict what the planning department will do, but I’d be very surprised if it went any further than this.
“Developers are making speculative inquiries all around Chelmsford and now they’re trying their luck here.”
Gladman Developments did not provide a comment.
