A FARMER has been reunited with his two donkeys who "went on the run" together earlier today.
The pair were initially found by police on the A12, near Witham, at about 2.45am.
Worried drivers called 999 after seeing them wandering on the London-bound carriageway between junctions 21 and 22.
Lanes in both directions were temporarily closed while the donkeys were rounded up, put in a horse box and taken to an animal rescue centre in Chelmsford.
The animals had wandered away from a farm in the Witham area.
Their owner went out frantically looking for them after hearing about their exploits on the radio.
The farmer has now got them back and thanked police, and the local media, for their safe return.
