ENGLAND cricket captain Alastair Cook will pull the first pint of a special beer brewed for him.

The Essex left-hander will be at the Golden Fleece in Duke Street on Wednesday April 16 for the launch of Alastair Cook Benefit Beer.

Cook who has played 102 tests for England scoring a national record of 25 centuries and will pour the first pint of the cask ale at the pub where he will be joined with his Essex team-mates.

Sales of the beer which has been brewed by the Brentwood Brewing Company will be sold to raise money during Cook’s benefit year at the Ford County Ground.

Funds will be split between four charities chosen by the 29-year-old:

• Chance To Shine

• David Randall Foundation

• MIND

• Professional Cricketers’ Association Benevolent Fund

Cricket loving pub manager Brett Sanders said he was excited to have the England star at his venue adding it was an honour to be serving the specially made brew to his customers.

Mr Sanders said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Alastair on Wednesday and are proud to be the first pub to sell a beer that celebrates his career and raises money for several deserving charities.”

Previous the pub has sold other beers for Essex players during their benefit year including Graham Napier and James Foster.

Entry on the night is free with Cook expected to serve up the first pint at about 7.30pm and a raffle also taking place.
