A MOTORBIKE enthusiast who received horrific injuries in a crash has won £55,500 compensation.

Lucy Groom, 25, from Chelmsford, received a broken right leg and multiple injuries after being thrown in the air when a car pulled across her in Camberwell New Road, London.

After the crash in February last year, she went through a series of operations, including having a metal rod installed in her leg.

Miss Groom has also been unable to overcome the incident mentally or physically.

Along with the help of her mother Suzanne and law firm Fletchers Solicitors, the graphic designer has now won a claim after an out of court settlement was reached.

Lucy’s mum said: “The accident was difficult to come to terms with at first and Lucy has still not fully recovered. However this compensation, while not healing the physical and mental scars, does go some way to help.”

Kirsty Thomas from Fletchers Solicitors added: “The award of compensation to Lucy reflects the seriousness of her sustained injuries and the impact they have had on her.

“Lucy has been supported throughout by her mother Suzanne and they have both shown real determination in dealing with the incident and its aftermath.”

An investigation by Metropolitan Police force officers is currently taking place over the crash.

A complaint was filed by Mrs Groom after it was discovered police had not investigated the incident originally despite taking witness statements.
