A CLUBHOUSE for a bowls club in Springfield has been burnt down after being set alight on Wednesday night.
Firefighters from Chelmsford and Great Baddow were called out to Lionmede Recreation Ground on Sandford Road at about 9.45pm after reports the clubhouse used by Lionmede Bowls Club was on fire.
The crews were able to extinguish the flames by 11pm but extensive damage has been caused to the single storey building.
An investigation has been launched by the fire service to determine the cause of the blaze.
