CRICKETING legend Graham Gooch will join his former England colleague Geoff Miller on stage in Chelmsford on Sunday March 23.

The duo will be at the Civic Theatre in Fairfield Road, for an evening as guests of the city’s mayor and deputy mayor to raise money for their chosen charity of the year, The J’s Hospice.

Audience members will be able to ask them questions about their time spent playing cricket professionally for club and country.

During the first half of the show Miller and Gooch will talk about their experiences before handing it over to a Q&A session after the interval.

Gooch who is England’s current batting coach played 25 seasons for Essex and featured in 118 tests for the national side, becoming their all-time leading runscorer with 8,900.

Miller had three seasons at Essex and after playing 34 tests for England became a national selector between 2008 to 2013.

Deputy mayor Jude Deakin who is a self-confessed cricket lover said she is expecting it to be an interesting evening.

Mrs Deakin said: “I am really looking forward to the night.

“I have been told Geoff is an extremely good after dinner speaking and you’ll find him good fun whether you like cricket or not so there will be something for everyone.

“Graham is still the England batting coach and a well respected figure in the game so it will be great to listen to him.

“When we first arranged this it was just after we had won the Ashes last summer so everyone was pumped up, but now after the series in Australia I am sure they might be some rather pointed questions asked of the pair.”

Tickets for the show which starts at 7pm cost £18 for adults and £16 for concessions.

To book, call the theatre’s box office on 01245 606505.
