A SCHOOLBOY found stabbed to death in Grays was the son of a millionaire and “addicted” to computer games.

It is believed Breck Bednar, 14, of Caterham, Surrey, may have even visited Essex to meet up with someone he had become friends with through the internet.

Breck was found dead on Monday morning with knife wounds to his neck at a flat in Rosebery Road, Grays, by police.

Officers had unsuccessfully attempted emergency first aid to revive him.

This morning Lewis Daynes, 18, a computer engineer of Rosebery Road, Grays, appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ court charged with his murder.

Breck was the son of Barry, an American Millionaire oil broker, 49, and Lorin LaFave, 47, who went to Michigan State University and is a regular at St John the Evangelist church in Caterham.

In a statement, the family said: "Our family is devastated by the loss of our beloved Breck David LaFave Bednar.

"He was a kind, intelligent, thoughtful boy with a good sense of humourand extremely gifted in computing, electronics, and engineering.

"He was a member of the Air Cadets with the 135 Squadron in Redhill, and a member of St. John the Evangelist C. of E. Church in Caterham.

"His three younger siblings knew him as a kind and loving older brother who always helped out by looking after them.

"The wider family remember him as a well-mannered, social, and confident boy who was always thoughtful and patient with his younger cousins.

"We are all in shock, and so grateful for the thoughts and prayers of friends and family at this difficult time."

A post on a Facebook page called the Aylesbury Grapevine, by someone claiming to be Breck’s cousin, said the schoolboy was in Grays to meet up with the man he had been talking to over the internet.

The Facebook post described Breck as “an incredibly smart, funny, and cute 14 year old boy” but someone who found it “difficult” to make friends and who would “often avoid social interaction”.

The post read: “Two nights ago, Breck told his father that he was going to his friend's house for a sleep over a couple of streets away. This wasn't a huge concern for his parents. He ended up taking a train down to Essex, about two hours away to meet the man he had been talking to over the internet.

“Early the next morning, the police found his body.”

According to a message on the content sharing website Imgur, Breck was a socially awkward teenager “addicted” to video games. It is claimed he had stopped going to church.

Breck was a pupil at St Bedes Christian school in Redhill.

A statement on the school's website, read: "We were devastated to hear the awful news about Breck Bednar, a student in Year 10.

"Breck was a bright and hard working student who teachers describe as a real pleasure to teach.

"His tutor described him as 'a model student: a conscientious young man with a great deal of potential'.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and with all affected."

Tributes from Thurrock, Surrey and the USA have been pouring in on social media for Breck.

On Twitter, Corrie Kennelly said: “This murder has been felt across the pond. Here in Texas we are devastated. Breck's roots are here. Our hearts hurt.”

Sara Hallen, from Surrey, said: "Can't believe a year 10 boy from St Bede's has been killed, rest in peace Breck."

Angie Gaywood, Thurrock Council’s portfolio holder for public protection, added: "Saddened to hear the news of the murder of 14 year old Breck Bednar in Grays yesterday. Thoughts & prayers are with his family & friends."
