HIRSUTE men came from across Britain to meet up and talk beard-related topics in Chelmsford on Saturday.

British Beard Club members ventured to the Queen’s Head pub in Lower Anchor Street for a gathering to commemorate the group’s fifth anniversary.

A vast array of facial hair designs where on show during the day from full blown wizard-like beards to waxed moustaches.

Starting the event off was the AGM of the club before the bearded men and their partners sat down for food and drink.

Tips for budding beard growers were also provided by more experienced members of the society.

Founding member Frazer Coppin said the hairy celebration had gone down very well.

Mr Coppin, 54, said: “It has been a great day enjoyed by everyone and we had wall-to-wall beards at one point with lots of guys coming in to be part of the event.

“There has been a great atmosphere and it is good to have everyone together to discuss beards and other subjects too.”
