FARCICAL antics are set to grip theatre audiences in Chelmsford as a comedy takes to the stage.

The Play That Goes Wrong will be at the Civic Theatre for a six night stay having already been performed in the West End receiving rave reviews in the process.

Based in the 1920s, the plot revolves around the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society attempts to put on a murder mystery show.

However, as suggested by the title, problems cripple the production although the actors try their hardest to plough their way through to the end.

After it’s success in London, the play is being taken on a UK tour with producer Kenny Wax onboard.

The triple Olivier Award winner said he feel in love with the play the moment he went to see it performed in the capital.

Mr Wax said: “A few months ago a producer friend asked me to accompany him to see The Play That Goes Wrong and I was totally charmed we offered them a deal on the spot.

“I should add that I have never been quite so impulsive before, but I had a real desire to help this bunch of daredevil and totally committed young actors to bring their show to a wider audience.

“There’s something very satisfying about hearing an audience laugh, cheer and to then watch them leave the theatre with an enormous sense of elation.

“I have no doubt that this production will do the same.”

Tickets on opening night cost £15 while other performances range from £18.00 to £24.50.
