YELLOW lines have at last been introduced on a road in Chelmsford - following a five-year campaign.

The lines restrict parking during certain times of the day along Linnet Drive.

Double yellow lines have also been laid down at the junction of Plane Tree Close preventing parking at all times.

The campaign for better parking restrictions on the road started in 2008. Originally calls were made for a zebra crossing.

Lib Dem city and county councillor Jude Deakin who has been one of the avid campaigners said it was good to have the lines - although a crossing would be better.

Mrs Deakin said: “I still think the zebra crossing was the best solution.

“I think we just have to say thank goodness we have finally got something after years campaigning and it is better than nothing.

“I just hope it is policed as it has been so frustrating having to fight for what really is a simple solution.”

Bosses from South Essex parking partnership said the lines were painted after highways chiefs at county council agreed to the plans last year.

A spokeswoman said: “Following the decision by the Chelmsford Local Highway Panel to fund this scheme last year, the partnership was instructed to implement their recommendations.”

The parking restrictions will start being enforced from Monday March 3.
