DEVINE intervention has helped a recently formed record breaking WI group in Chelmsford find a new home.

The New City Girls will be hosting their monthly meetings inside Chelmsford Cathedral starting from February 10.

This move comes after their first meeting at the Cricketers pub in Moulsham Street on Monday, January 13 saw more than 150 ladies turn up, leaving many having to queue in the street to get in.

Following this turnout which broke the Essex record for a first meeting, the group have been on the hunt for a new venue to meet in.

After a few enquiries, they managed to hire out the iconic building in central Chelmsford.

Committee members said they are thrilled to be using the cathedral.

Sophie Jackson, committee member in charge of PR, said: “From the start we have been keen not to have cap our membership numbers and finding a venue that would allow this has proved tricky.

“We were amazed to hear that the Cathedral is a fully licensed premises with underfloor heating, so no cold, draughty, uptight building for us.

“The people who run the Cathedral have been so supportive of us and enthusiastic about our programme and we can't wait to get started there.”
