A MAN bravely saved his 15-month-old daughter, girlfriend and mum from a flood - as onlooking thieves stole his motorbike.

Christian Gibson, 22, of High Street, Great Baddow, sped to Maldon Road, Margaretting, after his girlfriend called from her stranded Ford Fiesta.

He arrived, jumped off his black and white Orion Apollo bike and waded into almost knee-deep water before managing to push the car to safety.

Mr Gibson, a greenskeeper at The Warren golf course in Danbury, then went back in to push another car and van out of trouble.

After the drama, he headed back towards his £1,800 bike parked a little further along the road, near Whites Bridge Farm, and it had gone.

Mr Gibson said: “I’m gutted.

“As a greenskeeper I have to be at the course early so I’m up at about 5am on weekdays and 4am on weekends and I don’t have any other transport options.

“It means I can’t do any overtime so it is affecting my pay. I get all of this hassle when I was just trying to help people. It’s absolutely horrible.”

He added what makes him even more upset and angry is the fact the crooks must have driven past him.

He said: “They would have had to gone past the flood water and me to reach my bike!

“It would have been quite clear it was my bike too as I had my crash helmet on me while trying to get the cars out.

“That to me is an even bigger insult.”

Anyone with information about the incident, which happened at about 6pm last Friday, or whereabouts of the bike should contact Chelmsford police station on 101.
